As a Deva, Forthcoming’s physical form has been destroyed and reformed countless times. In his most recent reincarnation, however, something went wrong. His body was reformed in the usual holy place, but this holy place had been replaced by a portion of Returned Abeir. He found himself high atop the Maerthwatch Mountains of Akanul. The usual divine connection linking him to his god was (and remains) gone. He can recall that the presence should be there, much like one who has lost an appendage can still feel a phantom limb. Were the gods testing him? Was he being punished for acting poorly in his last life? Was this just some freak accident caused by the Spellplague? Weeks of meditation and silent contemplation yielded nothing, so he wandered from the peaks and came across a Dwarven caravan returning to their home in East Rift from a trading run to New Breen. The leader of the caravan, a Dwarven Artificer named Nehem, immediately recognized the Deva for what he was and welcomed him with open arms. The Dwarves were a good-natured and boisterous bunch. When asked for his name, Forthcoming responded that it was forthcoming and he would let them know when he was able to recall it. ‘Ah, so your name’s Forthcoming!’ one replied and the name stuck. Forthcoming returned with Nehem to Eartheart, where he spent many years among the Dwarves. Nehem was eager to teach Forthcoming all he knew, and he threw himself into his studies, rarely thinking of his mysterious origins. Before long Forthcoming had surpassed his master. An injury sustained during an experiment left Forthcoming badly injured. While unconscious, he was inundated with memories of his most recent life as a Swordmage and was able to retain some of this knowledge after he recovered. This exhilarating experience ignited in Forthcoming a need to discover as much about his past lives as he could. Maybe by doing so he could discover the reason for the absence of his divine connection. So with incomplete training as both an Artificer and Swordmage, Forthcoming set out alone to discover the truths of his past.
